With its distinctive heritage as the oldest independent girls' school in London, James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS) provides a forward-thinking and contemporary education for girls aged 4 to 18. A diverse and dynamic school community, nurturing self-assured and considerate individuals who thrive, JAGS is on the cusp of an exciting new phase in its development. It has the ambition to develop further as a leading school across multiple spheres, anticipating global change in a community without barriers to full participation and inclusion.

An imaginative and responsive Deputy Head People is sought for September 2022. The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader and pastoral specialist, passionate about pupil experience, participation and inclusion and able to support all pupils to flourish personally in this joyful community. The Deputy Head People will evolve the pastoral culture of JAGS, bringing a nuanced understanding of young people’s welfare and pastoral priorities. A convincing ambassador, naturally empathetic with a high level of warmth, interpersonal subtlety and skill, they will work closely with the entire community, championing contribution and open dialogue.

This post presents an exciting opportunity to work with the new Head, Mrs Alex Hutchinson, and with a talented Executive Team, in evolving an already exceptional school in its next exciting chapter. Existing senior leadership experience is desirable but not essential, and JAGS welcomes applications from the broader education sector in the UK and internationally. For individuals aspiring to headship, this post offers an excellent opportunity to develop as a leader in a highly successful, ambitious organisation.

We offer:

  • A diverse benefit package including parking, gym membership and free lunches
  • An opportunity to join one of the leading independent girls’ schools in the country.
  • Generous Pension scheme
  • Free access to the Dulwich Picture Gallery
  • Cycle to work scheme

JAGS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
