As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally.  Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.

The School of Social and Political Science (SPS), part of the University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, is one of the largest and most successful schools of social science in the UK, with global reach and local and global impact. It is one of 11 Schools within the College, which also hosts the cross-University Centre for Open Learning, the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, and the Edinburgh Futures Institute. With more than 400 academic and professional services staff working across seven Subject Areas plus a number of research centres and networks, cross-Subject consortia, and other units, the School plays a leading role in delivering learning opportunities for students across the University to engage with current global challenges and uncertainties and also supports world-leading research. The Head of School provides strategic leadership in teaching, learning and research, helping to develop a shared vision for the School that embodies agility and flexibility, supporting the full diversity of School activity.

We are seeking to appoint an internationally recognised scholar in an area relevant to the School who brings an inclusive, collaborative approach and can evidence the ability to provide academic and management leadership across the breadth of the School.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.

The University of Edinburgh is willing to consider flexible working or job share arrangements for this appointment.

The closing date is midday (BST) on Monday 18th October 2021.
