Lancaster is a university firmly rooted in academic and collegiate values and has demonstrated an impressive trajectory of growth and impact, consistently ranked as one of the leading universities in the UK and recently named International University of the Year 2020 (The Sunday Times). It combines excellence in research and education with a vibrant, diverse community, a beautiful campus in the North West of England, and global partnerships in Ghana, China, Malaysia and Germany. It plays a significant role regionally, as a driver of knowledge and innovation, as well as widening participation and access to higher education.
Lancaster has much to celebrate. One of only a handful of universities with a collegiate system, the University has a strong sense of identity and loyalty, which is a distinctive feature of student life. With research strengths across disciplines including the environment, cyber security and management, Lancaster is equally innovative in regional collaborations such as UA92, a joint venture with a number of investors including members of the ‘Class of 92’ (former Manchester United players), KPMG, and Microsoft, which offers innovative learning for nontraditional students; and as the Lead Partner in the Eden Project North. Lancaster’s Health Innovation Campus works to improve health outcomes at scale, while fostering economic growth by helping businesses develop and market innovative health solutions, as well as attracting major investment in the region, supporting job creation and local enterprise.
Lancaster University is currently seeking to appoint several Council and Committee Members. It is an exciting time to consider becoming a University Council and/or Committee Member. The higher education sector is in a period of fast-paced transformation with the pandemic bringing into sharp relief multiple challenges and also significant opportunities. The importance of universities’ research endeavors to scientific advancement and knowledge has never been clearer. Since the appointment in 2020 of both a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Andy Schofield, and a new Pro-Chancellor, Alistair Burt, Lancaster has also been developing a new strategy and therefore, members joining the Council or its Committees during this period will be able to influence its implementation.
A broad range of skill sets and perspectives is conducive to strong governance and as such, we are keen to hear from a broad range of individuals with relation to these roles. Of particular interest to the University at this time are those who have developed professional skills in any of the following areas:
We believe that the right combination of perspectives, skills, experience and diversity on our Council will lead to a stronger University. We welcome and encourage applications from individuals who will continue to add to the diversity of our Council.
