As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.
The School of Economics is characterised by its cohesiveness and informal research-led collegiality, with high quality research seminars and workshop programmes running on a weekly basis. The School has research strength in economic theory, labour economics, applied econometrics, behavioural economics and health economics. We are looking to build on and expand this range of strengths in this next period of School development. In the last Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014), the School of Economics was placed 1st in Scotland and 8th in the UK by overall rating. The Head of School provides strategic leadership in teaching, learning and research, and will also lead a planned expansion of the school, including growth of academic staff numbers to a size more consistent with school status and student intake.
We are seeking to appoint an individual with an internationally excellent track record of research in economics who brings an inclusive, collaborative approach and can evidence the ability to provide academic and management leadership across the School.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.
The University of Edinburgh is willing to consider flexible working or job share arrangements for this appointment.
The closing date is midday Monday 8th November 2021.
