For the last five years, Staffordshire University has been on a transformative journey, achieving UK top 50 League Table rankings, TEF Gold standard in Teaching and Learning and recognition as the “Connected University”, of, and for, its community and region. Business minded, industry engaged, research applied, technologically savvy and digitally leading, Staffordshire University provides an outstanding education for our students, preparing them for the jobs of the future, some of which do not yet exist.

We are embarking on the next exciting phase of our strategic development, under the leadership of our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Jones, our current Deputy Vice Chancellor, who takes up post in January 2022. In readiness for this, we are making important changes to the senior leadership team of the University and are seeking to make a number of high-profile appointments including the role of Executive Dean of the School of Digital, Technologies and the Arts, (DTA).

The School of DTA is our largest and most diverse school in the University and defines the University as the leading digital university, with a vast array of commendations for its digital prowess. Creativity is at the heart of the School with innovative courses developing the next generation of graduates in subjects from fine art, fashion, product design and illustration, to computing, engineering, games, esports and architecture. Research activities are focused around four research centres  in engineering, computing, media and cultural industries, and external funding supports enterprise and knowledge exchange work with national, regional and local companies. The School has active and well embedded relationships with a wide range of regional, national and international partners.

As the Executive Dean of the School of DTA, the successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the School. Reporting to and working closely with the University Executive and Board of Governors, the Executive Dean will lead the process of defining, differentiating and shaping the School for its next phase of development.

We seek an outstanding individual who will build on our existing strengths and take us to the next level of performance in terms of impact, and delivery of teaching, innovation and research.  Candidates will have an academic track record in a related discipline, with a significant reputation in practice or research. Possessing experience of transformative leadership and  management of learning and teaching in the higher education sector,  they will have a strong understanding of the UK and  global context for higher education and its developmental direction.

With a deep commitment to our values and mission, we are seeking a visionary, strategic thinker with a confident, clear, consultative style, and the ability to influence, inspire and motivate our whole community to help realise our ambition. This is an exceptional opportunity to join our team at an exciting time for our University, and to have a real impact.

Location: Staffordshire

The closing date for applications is midnight (GMT) on Monday 29th November 2021.
