Singapore Management University (SMU) has started a global search for its next Dean of the Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL). Founded only in 2000 and offering a transformative education for a new generation of graduates and leaders, SMU has grown to become a prominent specialised university for the world of business and management. The University prides itself for its ability to generate leading-edge research with global impact and to produce broad-based, socially engaged, creative and entrepreneurial leaders.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary next year, YPHSL is the youngest of all SMU schools. At its core stands the ambition to play a significant role in shaping the future of law – whether as a discipline or profession. In pursuing this ambition, the School has made great strides in providing thought leadership on a range of topics, be that the harmonisation of Asia’s commercial laws, the legal implications of the Internet of Things or smart contracts, or the liberalisation of Singapore’s legal sector. The School has also become well-known for the distinct profile of its graduates as being technically capable and socially engaged.

The next Dean of YPHSL will be able to build on the foundations developed over the past decade and will have the opportunity to accelerate YPHSL’s progress as an Asian leader of research and education in law. In doing so they will need to demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and bold leadership that both inspires and supports faculty, students and communities the School seeks to serve.

How to Apply

SMU will be supported in this appointment process by the executive search firm Perrett Laver. The search firm will support the YPHSL Dean Search Committee in the discharge of its duties both to assist in the assessment of candidates against the requirements for the role and to identify the widest possible field of qualified candidates.

Application documentation should include (in electronic form): a cover letter describing relevant management and leadership experiences, teaching and research interests, and a full curriculum vitae.

The deadline for applications is 5pm SGT on Wednesday 12th January 2022.
