From discovering isotopes to detecting gravitational waves, the University of Glasgow has been changing the world since 1451. It is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world and has consistently been at the forefront of innovation, delivering world-changing impact for almost 600 years. The University was recently named as the Scottish University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, is the current Times Higher Education University of the Year, and is one of the world’s top 100 universities.

However, despite the institution’s unique history and firmly established reputation of excellence, Glasgow remains firmly focused on the future, investing in infrastructure and people to continue forging an ambitious path. As such, there has never been a better time to join the University.

The University of Glasgow is seeking an exceptional and strategic leader, able to lead the breadth of the College of Arts with ambition and long-term vision. The Vice-Principal and Head of College reports to the Principal, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, and is a member of the Senior Management Group of the University. You will, therefore, support and develop the direction of the wider institution, as well as provide leadership of the College.

You will bring a strong track record of strategic leadership across complex organisational structures, a high degree of academic credibility, and the ability to engage and inspire a breadth of internal and external stakeholders. You should have significant experience of fostering a collaborative and collegiate culture, that supports interdisciplinary working and will sustain the high performance of the College, as well as an ability to champion the Arts and engage with a wide range of partners, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The University wishes to encourage applications that will continue to strengthen the diversity of its leadership team.
