The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Regina invites applications for the position of Dean. This position represents an outstanding opportunity to take on a leadership role at an innovative university that plays a central role in the community, province and beyond. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022 or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is responsible for ensuring that all faculty and staff strive to maximize student success and maintain a diverse and inclusive community. They will be expected to build upon the existing research strengths of the Faculty and facilitate the development of new strategic priority research areas and emergent research initiatives. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and collegial leader, an effective communicator, and a strong advocate of equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism and Indigenization within the Faculty and broader institution. The Dean's role is to champion an environment in which world-leading research, excellence in teaching, and engaged scholarship, flourish.

The ideal candidate will be a transformative leader, with a commitment to transparency, and the ability to foster supportive and meaningful relationships within and external to the Faculty. The Dean will have an exemplary track record of scholarly achievement and evidence of research and teaching excellence. They will have demonstrated success in addressing equity, diversity and inclusion, anti-racism and Indigenization.  Experiential learning and cross disciplinary research and teaching are important to the Faculty and the University and the Dean will have success in this regard.  The candidate will hold a PhD in engineering or a related field and must qualify for appointment at the rank of Full Professor in the Faculty. The Dean is expected to be registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan.

The University of Regina comprises more than 16,000 students, including 2,200 graduate students, who are enrolled in 10 Faculties, 24 academic departments, and three federated colleges: Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, and Luther College. There are 18 research centres and institutes at the University of Regina.  The University is a comprehensive institution, emphasizing excellence in teaching and research, as well as service.  The 2020-2025 Strategic Plan: All Our Relations, kahkiyaw kiwâhkômâkaninawak guides and inspires bold and unconventional thinking about teaching, research, scholarship and the student experience.

The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers five undergraduate programs accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. These programs are: Electronic, Environmental, Industrial, Petroleum and Software Systems Engineering. The Faculty also offers Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.) (thesis-based), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) (project-based), and Master of Engineering with Co-operative Education (M.Eng. Co-op) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in Electronic Systems, Environmental Systems, Industrial Systems, Petroleum Systems, Process Systems and Software Systems. The Faculty has well-established Co-operative Education and Internship programs with strong ties to industry.  There are approximately 700 undergraduate students and almost 400 graduate students (of which about 130 graduate students are in Ph.D. programs). The Faculty has a strong commitment to providing a "systems approach" to engineering education. Each program has a unique implementation of the systems theme, founded on the common underlying goal of producing engineering graduates with a strong base of technical knowledge.  Importantly, graduates of these programs have the knowledge and skills required of professional engineers to thrive in the workplace.

The Faculty enjoys close collaborative relationships with industry and government research laboratories. These include the The Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation, SaskPower, the Saskatchewan Research Council, the University’s Energy Transition Hub, Clean Energy Technologies Research Institute (CETRI) and the Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Communities.
