Director Vacancies

"Football for Everyone, Everyone for Football"

Based at the foot of Glastonbury Tor in the heart of Somerset, Somerset FA is the not-for-profit body responsible for the continued development and governance of grassroots football in the county.

We are seeking to appoint two new Directors to join the Board of Directors of the Association.

This is an exciting time for football as we continue to work with The FA to deliver the National Game Strategy in Somerset, ensuring that the beautiful game is accessible and enjoyable for all.

The ‘Uniting Somerset Football’ strategy is Somerset FA’s new three-year plan to develop grassroots football county-wide. COVID-19 has brought huge disruption, challenges and constraints not only to grassroots football, but everyday life as we’ve previously known. We now have an opportunity to reset, revisit and rejuvenate grassroots football through a flexible, alterative and modernised approach.

During this challenging yet opportunistic time when we are building back better in football, we are looking for two new Directors to increase our impact. Collectively, the Board of Directors of Somerset FA are required to direct the business affairs of the Association, determining the vision and strategy as well as the plans, policies and financial investment required to achieve the business objectives.  As such, individually and collectively, the Directors are accountable to the membership.

The Association is committed to creating a Board of diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds which can add value to the game and our activities in Somerset.

Appointment of Finance Director

The Non-Executive Finance Director will bring recent and relevant financial experience that will enable robust financial controls and secure systems of risk management. They will work closely with the wider Board, ensuring that they are informed through relevant and timely information. They will be required to form a strong relationship with the CEO and Financial Administrator, providing support and acting as a sounding board on all financial matters.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

The positions are voluntary; travel expenses are provided to attend meetings and relevant events. Directors are appointed for a term of 3 years following an interview process, after which an annual review will be undertaken by the Chairman and Deputy Chairman.  The post requires a commitment to attend Board meetings every six weeks which roughly last for 2-2.5 hours. Overall time commitment is c. 1-1.5 days per month.

Applications should consist of a full curriculum vitae detailing career and achievements, as well as a covering letter addressing the role description and person specifications.

The closing date is 9 AM GMT on Friday 28th January 2022.

Somerset FA is an equal opportunity employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion and belief.
