As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.
Moray House School of Education and Sport was founded almost 200 years ago and continues to make a major contribution to the fields of education and sport both worldwide and in Scotland today. In that time, our staff, students and alumni have influenced, improved and transformed research, learning and teaching and wider educational policy in Scotland, the UK and beyond. There are currently over 3000 students in the School across a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and initial teacher education programmes, supported by around 300 academic, administrative and technical staff.
We are the leading School of Education and Sport in Scotland – ranked first for both educational and sport and exercise sciences research power, according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. The REF also places Moray House in the top five in the UK for educational research and top 10 in the UK for sport and exercise research, confirming the School’s reputation as a UK centre of excellence in these fields.
The School is home to three internationally recognised research centres, the Centre for Research in Digital Education (CRDE), the Centre for Research in Education, Inclusion and Diversity (CREID) and Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAHRC. It is also pioneering innovative pedagogies which include indoors, outdoors, on-line, on-campus and blended learning, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The School shares the commitment of the wider University to ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion in all of its work. In 2017, we were awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze award by the Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena SWAN charter in recognition of our efforts to promote a School culture of equality and inclusion.
We are seeking to appoint an individual with an internationally excellent track record of research who brings an inclusive, collaborative approach and can evidence the ability to provide academic and management leadership across the School.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.
The University of Edinburgh is willing to consider flexible working or job share arrangements for this appointment.
The closing date is midday (GMT) on Monday 31st January 2022.
