The Design Museum is devoted to contemporary design in every form, from architecture and fashion to graphics, product and industrial design. Founded in 1989 by Sir Terence Conran, the museum is the place in the UK where the design industry, education and the public come together to change the way people think about themselves and the future. The museum relocated to a spectacular modern landmark in Kensington in 2016, where it has welcomed over 2 million visitors since reopening and was awarded European Museum of the Year 2018. Its collection, publishing, events, exhibitions, learning and digital programmes invite everyone to experience and reflect on the impact of design.

We are now seeking to appoint a new Director of Development to help us achieve our vision. As a member of the leadership team and reporting to Chief Executive Tim Marlow, the Director is responsible for all fundraising activities across trusts and foundations, individual donors and corporate sponsors. Working with the development team, the successful candidate will nurture and steward long-term relationships with a wide range of donors and partners, delivering against ambitious fundraising targets.

The next Director of Development will bring a proven track record of building and maintaining effective, long-term and high-value relationship as well as evident philanthropic and sponsorship income generation experience. They will be a creative and forward-thinking leader who understands how to develop, implement, and deliver an innovative and effective fundraising strategy. Candidates will need demonstrate strategic thinking as well as collaborative leadership and excellent communication skills. Candidates must be highly committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and share to the values and vision of the Museum, as it strives to listen, learn and actively respond to inequity and racism in the organisation and wider industry.

The Design Museum will be assisted in this appointment by global executive search firm Perrett Laver.
