The Queen's Veterinary School Hospital at the University of Cambridge is renowned as one of Europe’s leading small animal referral centres, and is an integral part of the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The Hospital provides clinical learning and teaching opportunities for more than 200 clinical veterinary undergraduates and around 35 postgraduate veterinary surgeons undertaking specialist training.

The Hospital’s facilities have been substantially rebuilt and renovated in recent years, and include a new small animal wing with state-of-the-art intensive care facilities, a new clinical pathology laboratory and a fully-equipped cancer treatment unit.

We are now seeking a new Clinical Director of Small Animal Services to provide key strategic leadership and direction at the hospital. This role manages the small animal clinical teams, including nursing and support staff, and has a focus on surgical services. This is a key role in our management structure, where you will provide complementary leadership alongside the other Clinical Director of Small Animal Services, who is responsible for the medical services. We will look to you to contribute to the clinical teaching of undergraduate students and supervision of postgraduate veterinary surgeon training programmes. This role offers the opportunity to act as an interface between the clinics and research, facilitating the expansion of our clinical caseload in the areas of current research, and to assist and collaborate with the diverse research groups across the Department.

You will hold membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or a veterinary degree qualifying you for membership, and will be an active Diplomate of the European or American College of Veterinary Surgery. You will join us with substantial experience in veterinary clinical practice, in a state-of-the-art private referral practice and substantial line management and leadership experience. You will also have demonstrable experience of clinical veterinary student teaching, training of postgraduate veterinary surgeons and evidence of academic endeavour.

Critical to your success in this role will be your excellent interpersonal, communication, teaching and problem-solving skills. You will be sensitive to the differing needs and career directions of co-workers and students, with the ability to demonstrate discretion and sensitivity in dealing with clients and patients.
