Japan House is a global initiative led by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). There are three Japan Houses in the world, located in Los Angeles, São Paulo, and London. Japan House aims to provide a forum for creative and intellectual exchange between Japan and the rest of the world, by inviting guests from all backgrounds, and with a variety of interests, to explore, interact with, and immerse themselves in Japan’s rich and diverse culture. Japan House London (JHL) opened on 22nd June 2018 and is the new cultural home of Japan in London. Presenting the very best of Japanese art, design, gastronomy, innovation, and technology, JHL provides unique, imaginative insights into contemporary Japan, its cultures, and people. It is a living expression of culture in Japan, it is about Japan now, and provides an authentic experience for visitors.

We are now seeking an ambitious and inspirational Director General & CEO to build on our strong platform, develop our strategic direction and help us achieve our vision. Reporting to the Chair of the Board of the JHL operating company Japan H.L. Limited (JHLL), the new Director General & CEO will provide leadership to JHL and is also responsible for ensuring that JHLL satisfies its statutory and best practice obligations, in addition to meeting its contractual duties to MoFA.

The Director General & CEO will have significant leadership experience, able to articulate and deliver a coherent vision for the organisation, as well as inspire, motivate and develop colleagues. They must have knowledge and preferably management experience in the cultural sector, or related aligned industries, and understand the nature of working with government and operating a venue. The ideal candidate will have financial and commercial acumen as well as experience working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. We expect the next Director General & CEO to be passionate about our vision and mission and align personally with our values.

JHLL will be assisted in this appointment by global executive search firm Perrett Laver.
