Vacancy terms: Full Time with self-directed working pattern.
Appointment basis: Four year tenure as Head of School with possibility for extension. When the term is completed, you will be offered a permanent position in the College at the appropriate level.

About the role
We are seeking an inclusive and inspirational strategic leader who will inspire, enable and empower students and staff to realise their ambitions through world-leading research and inspiring education. Your creativity, underpinned by strong institutional, national and international collaborations, will deliver impact and outcomes across the School with a particular focus on Aerospace, Computational Engineering and Mechanics of Materials, Our wider institutional environment, including our engagement with Space Park Leicester, provides an ideal context and mechanisms to engage in interdisciplinary science (e.g. mathematics, computer science, geology, chemistry and medical science) and industrial collaborations.
Outstanding people leadership skills are a high priority for this role. The Head of School will lead a proactive and dynamic School Management Group, to support growth and development over the next few years. Mentoring, staff development and long-term succession planning are key aspects of leadership with a clear remit to promote enhanced staff diversity, especially regarding the gender balance across staff in the School.

Working closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Head of the College of Science and Engineering you will represent and promote the School, College and University to enable the right environment for us to be at the forefront of global leading research, innovative enterprise and the provision of an excellent student experience.
You will have proven ability to provide academic leadership in both research and teaching with a substantial record of research achievement in a related field.
You will be an accomplished communicator who can lead, inspire and motivate colleagues across the School and crucially you must be capable of leading change and delivering against the strategic priorities of the University. You will be committed to providing an inclusive environment for students and staff focused on realising potential and striving for excellence.
