Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community of scholars, students and support staff. We are proud of our past, confident in our present and ambitious for our future. With a history extending over more than 175 years, Liverpool Hope has developed a distinctive ethos that brings together scholarship, research and teaching.

Liverpool Hope University is distinctive among universities, being the only ecumenical higher education institution in Europe. Its mission is “to educate the whole person in mind, body and spirit”. The University values the individual, encouraging students to achieve the highest academic standards while becoming responsible citizens. Our 6,000 students are encouraged not only to think about the world of work but to consider how they can contribute to the work of the world.

The University Council is now looking to appoint an exceptional individual as Vice-Chancellor, succeeding Professor Gerald Pillay after two decades of dedicated leadership of this institution. Our new Vice-Chancellor will lead our welcoming and inclusive collegium, set in stunning grounds with a mix of listed buildings and modern architecture at the heart of the vibrant, world-class city of Liverpool. This individual will be responsible for stewarding the strategic and operational management and academic development of the University as we seek to achieve our vision and goals.  They will deliver an optimal student experience and promote a culture of academic research intensity. Our robust financial position, strong recent REF results, and continued commitment to fostering real community in accordance with our ecumenical foundations, make this an opportune moment for an individual who shares our values to join us as our next Vice-Chancellor.

The successful candidate will be a practising member of the Roman Catholic or an Anglican church in accordance with the ecumenical foundations of Liverpool Hope University, will be demonstrably committed to the University’s mission and values, and will take genuine pride in the University and what it stands for. Our next Vice-Chancellor will bring significant leadership experience in higher education; first class communication and listening skills; and the ability to engage staff, students and stakeholders in an inclusive and approachable manner.

The closing date for applications is at 12:00 noon BST on Monday 27th June 2022.

Candidates should be available in mid-July or early August 2022 for preliminary meetings with Perrett Laver. Shortlisted candidates will be formally interviewed by Liverpool Hope in w/c 3rd October 2022.
