Cardiff University is an ambitious and innovative university with a bold strategic vision, built on a foundation of excellent teaching and research across a broad set of disciplines. Based in a cosmopolitan, thriving capital city we have a presence not only in Wales but also nationally and internationally.

Our vision is to be a world-leading, research excellent, educationally outstanding university, driven by creativity and curiosity, which fulfils its social, cultural and economic obligations to Cardiff, Wales, the UK, and the world. By fulfilling our vision we will improve our standing as one of the top 100 universities in the world and the top 20 in the UK. Our strategy is set out in The Way Forward 2018-2023: Recast COVID-19 where we have adapted our strategic priorities to the new reality.

It is in this exciting and evolving context that we are seeking to build further our research innovation capabilities and capacity with the appointment of a Head of Research Commercialisation and Impact who will lead the commercialisation of research outcomes through patenting, licensing and the creation of new spin-out companies and new ventures and manage the University’s successful company incubation activities. Working closely with all disciplines across Cardiff’s academic community, the postholder will drive research impact and commercialisation through individual and institute-based opportunities and hold responsibility for the University’s incubator facilities (Cardiff Innovations on the new Cardiff Innovation Campus and the Medicentre).

Candidates will offer a track record of achievement in research commercialisation and technology transfer and demonstrate an ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including senior university leaders and academics and external organisations that support research commercialisation and impact. They will possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to identify and nurture opportunities and support the generation of impact from an outstanding research base. Evidence of team leadership will be important, as well as the operational capability to deliver income growth.
