As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030, we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.

The Director of Sport and Active Health is responsible for leading on the University’s commitment to encourage, support and sustain involvement in all forms of physical activity and sport. The role is responsible for the development and delivery of an ambitious strategic plan to ensure the quality, diversity, appeal and uptake of the University’s sport and well-being offer, and to lead and inspire a high-quality team (c190 staff), driving business success and innovation, applying resources for optimal impact, and mounting pro-active advocacy and stakeholder engagement, both inside and outside the University.

This role is a key member of the Corporate Services Group management team, reporting to the Vice Principal Corporate Services and holds a number of important relationships across the University and externally with Scottish and UK Governing Bodies of Sport, SportScotland, City of Edinburgh Council Scottish Student Sport, British Universities & Colleges Sport, and other voluntary and statutory organisations with a role and/or interest in sport and active health.

It is essential that the successful candidate can inject imagination, innovation and energy to develop our already excellent sport and active health offer even further.  Providing strategic direction, vision and leadership across the key portfolios to deliver very significant high value projects and high quality, efficient, agile and responsive services, the successful candidate will pursue excellent outcomes from the University’s investment in student and staff experience. An experienced and strategic individual, they will bring a successful track record of working at pace to lead and deliver complex operational management and change programmes across multifaceted professional service functions, preferably in a leisure industry context.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.

The deadline for applications is Friday 18th July 2022 at midday (GMT).
