Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre Company (RET) transforms the way people see theatre, each other and the world around them. It was taken over by artists in 1976 and today it is an award-winning cultural charity that produces new theatre in-the-round, in communities, on the road and online. Exchange remains at the heart of everything we make and do. Now our currency is brand new drama and reinvigorated classics, the boldest artists and a company of highly skilled makers - all brought together in a shared imaginative endeavour to trade ideas and experiences with the people of Greater Manchester (and beyond).

We are now looking to recruit a Chair of the Board of Trustees. The new Chair will help us navigate the opportunities and challenges of a post-pandemic environment and build upon our success to date. It will be crucial that our next Chair is a willing and able advocate for the organisation, with the profile and stature to have impact with our key stakeholders and audiences, as well as having a keen eye for governance and the ability to steward the Board. They must bring significant leadership and be experienced in setting and reviewing strategic direction and achievement. With a passion for the performing arts, the ideal candidate will have commercial acumen and an entrepreneurial outlook. The RET is a key cultural organisation within Manchester, it is therefore desirable that the next Chair can help increase the RET’s visibility in the city as well as nationally. It is important candidates are committed to our mission and align to our values.
