Are you motivated by your Christian faith to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty?

Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive. But together we have the power to transform lives.

Supported by churches in Britain and Ireland, we are a global movement of people, churches and local organisations who passionately champion dignity, equality, justice and love worldwide. We are the changemakers, the peacemakers, the mighty of heart.

Everyone is equal in the sight of God. For over 75 years, this truth has inspired us to stand together in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours, of all faiths and none.

We push for an end to hunger, and healthcare for all. We campaign to tackle the climate crisis and support people on the frontline to adapt to its effects. We provide urgent help when disasters strike. We work for a just peace in places of conflict and violence. And we help people living in poverty to secure a decent livelihood so they can live with dignity.

Above all, we seek to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. We work alongside people living in poverty, to amplify their voices and support them to speak truth to power and create lasting change.

Our global strategy, Standing Together, describes our vision of a world free from poverty and injustice; and we prioritise activities that can deliver all three pillars of our analytical framework: poverty, power and prophetic voice.

About the role

Following the appointment of Patrick Watt to Chief Executive, we are seeking an outstanding, courageous and inclusive leader who is passionate about tackling poverty and injustice and strengthening the role of communities around the world in tackling its root causes. Reporting to the Chief Executive and as a key member of the directorate, the Policy and Campaigns Director plays a significant strategic and representational role for the organisation. You will provide effective and visible leadership of Christian Aid’s evidence, influencing and mobilisation work, in order to bring about positive change for people in poverty. You will ensure that our policy, advocacy and campaigning, research and learning are coherent, aligned with programmes, theologically rooted, and shape Christian Aid’s messaging and positions.

About you

You must be a practicing Christian who shares our values, can articulate Christian Aid’s prophetic voice, and credibly engage our 41 sponsoring churches and a wide network of trusted partnerships across the world. You will have a passion for the work we do to eradicate poverty, and realise gender equality and climate justice. You will bring a proven track record as a senior strategic leader in policy, advocacy and/or campaigns in the international development and humanitarian sector, or a related field such as human rights or environment. You will bring extensive knowledge and understanding of issues related to global poverty and inequality as well as excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. You will be an inspiring manager with the ability to lead a dispersed team as well as manage organisational change. You will be a strong advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion.

Religion/Faith is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement - Equality Act 2010.
