Established by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (“TWGHs”) in 2010, Tung Wah College (TWC) is a self-financing degree-granting institution registered under the Post-Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap.320).  Following the educational ideals of TWGHs and leveraging on its renowned strengths and expertise, TWC aims to provide high quality tertiary education to nurture competent, socially responsible and caring professionals for the benefits of society. 

With the staunch support of TWGHs, TWC has been developing rapidly and built up a niche in healthcare education. It is the first self-financing tertiary institution offering professionally accredited degrees to train allied health professionals such as medical laboratory technologists, occupational therapists and radiation therapists. Besides, the College is also the first institution registered under Cap. 320 offering early childhood education degree and higher diploma programmes to train qualified kindergarten teachers and child care professionals. 

Currently, TWC has 4 schools (namely School of Arts and Humanities, School of Management, School of Medical and Health Sciences, and School of Nursing) offering a total of 18 degree, sub-degree, diploma and certificate programmes in several disciplines. It has a student population of over 3,400 in 2021/2022.

Job Objectives:

Vice President (Academic) provides leadership in the academic development, programmes, support, quality assurance, and research and scholarly activities of the College. Reporting to the President, the Vice President (Academic) is a key member of the College’s senior management team and will work closely with the President to advance the College in achieving its mission of quality education, excelling in research and scholarly activities, and becoming a private university in the long run.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The appointee will be required to:

  1. provide effective leadership and guidance in the College’s academic development, programmes, teaching and learning support, quality assurance, and research and scholarly activities etc.;
  2. formulate strategic academic plans, policies, guidelines and regulations etc. and oversee their development, review, implementation and outcomes;
  3. oversee the operation, administration and development of Schools and academic support units to ensure cost-effective provision of quality education;
  4. assure the academic quality and standards of the College’s programmes and review their teaching and learning processes for continuous improvement;
  5. oversee all programme accreditation and reaccreditation processes to achieve satisfactory results;
  6. develop and enhance the research culture and profile of the College;
  7. strengthen the College’s regional and possibly international profile and network with overseas academic institutions;
  8. participate in and contribute to the College’s administration, planning and development; and
  9. undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required for Appointment:

The appointee should:

  1. possess a doctoral degree in a related discipline to the College’s offering (a full professor status);
  2. have substantial experience in academic leadership in programme development and accreditation in higher education, particularly in the self-financed tertiary education sector;
  3. have a good track record in research/ publications and outstanding performance in academic administration and the ability to cultivate and enhance research culture and profile within the College;
  4. have strong management capability to build up academic collaborations and strong interpersonal skills in initiating networks with industry, business, academic and professional communities etc. and promoting collaboration with internal and external stakeholders;
  5. have a good understanding of Hong Kong business and education environment;
  6. have organizational and interpersonal skills in initiating networks with industry, business, academic and professional communities etc. and promoting collaboration with internal and external stakeholders;
  7. be an innovative and dynamic leader with vision, energy and high level of integrity; possess collaborative and collegial management style; demonstrate foresight, strategic planning capabilities as well as strong commitment to academic excellence and quality education;
  8. have academic standing and leadership and adaptability to changes and challenges; and
  9. have excellent communication skills and be proficient in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).
