Unique opportunity to lead an Australian icon

Qantas Founders Museum (QFM) tells the story of Australia’s national airline, from its early days in Outback Queensland to the present day.  Characters of the early Qantas days, their pioneering spirit and the impact the airline had for all Australians are brought to life through life size exhibits, historical artefacts and interactive displays including the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar, and tours of the Boeing 707, Boeing 747, Super Constellation and DC-3 and the new and unique Luminescent Longreach light and sound experience.

QFM is now seeking a new Chief Executive Officer, an exciting opportunity to build upon the success of an iconic museum and to lead the strategic development of the organisation into the future. Located in Longreach, Queensland, QFM plays a vital role in the community and the region.

About You

You will be an established leader in the arts, cultural, tourism or not-for profit sectors with relevant experience and qualifications.  Importantly you will have the passion and energy to realise the ambitions of Qantas Founders Museum and lead a committed and capable team to deliver extraordinary achievements.

With the skills and experience to build and develop key connections, you will genuinely embrace the challenge and opportunity of a World Class aviation museum located in Outback Australia and create bridges and pathways to engagement with the local community and national and international visitors. You will understand the nuances of funding at local, state and national levels and build on partnerships with private philanthropists and donors.  Your commercial mind-set will directly impact the museums future success and sustainability.

You will know that managing collections and special exhibitions requires time and assiduous attention to detail. You will enable your team members to deliver work at an outstanding level and feel valued and proud of their achievements. You will also know that behind every museum lie myriad operationally important considerations such as financial management, OH&S, security, HR, facilities management, hospitality offerings and sound planning for future success.

You will jump at the chance to live and be engaged in western Queensland and immerse yourself in the community whilst building a national and international profile for the Qantas Founders Museum and cultural tourism.
