Drawing on 183 years of history as the oldest first-class county club in England and Wales, Sussex Cricket approaches an exciting juncture in its development during a time of great change in the sport.

Sussex Cricket is seeking to identify and appoint up to two independent Non-Executive Directors to join its Board, with the aim of: providing value to its members through a range of initiatives; managing relationships with key stakeholders; and paving the path for performance-winning matches.

The Board of Sussex Cricket is responsible for the governance and development of the sport within the county - from recreational to professional level – and for ensuring that Sussex Cricket competes each season at as high a level as possible in the professional game and competitions organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The Board derives its authority from the Membership for whose benefit (and the common good) the organisation exists. Its role is:

  • To create, adopt and monitor the strategy to promote cricket in Sussex;
  • To guide, support and monitor the operational management of the Organisation; and,
  • To ensure that all forms of risk are identified and managed effectively.

In seeking to appoint up to two independent Non-Executive Directors, the Board welcomes all applications, particularly those from individuals who can evidence experience in one (or more) of the following areas:

  • Events Management
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion/Widening Participation
  • Women and Girl’s Cricket

Sussex Cricket recognises the benefits of greater diversity at board level and beyond, and is committed to ensuring an inclusive culture and environment. The organisation is keen to build a more representative Board and welcomes all applications, particularly from women, members of underrepresented ethnic communities, those from LGBTQ+ communities, as well as people with disabilities.

Previous board experience is not essential, and Sussex Cricket will keenly look to support and develop new members with the ambition, dedication and talent to enable the organisation in its goals. Experience in cricket is also not necessary, although a willingness to get to know the sport and a commitment to enable Sussex Cricket’s vision is.
