We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in South Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. We have helped more than 39 million people improve their living conditions since 1976. With our Strategic Plan, Habitat for Humanity will serve more people than ever before with decent and affordable housing. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower.

The Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS), a unit of Habitat for Humanity International, works with housing market actors to expand innovative and client-responsive services, products and financing so that households can improve their shelter more effectively and efficiently. The goal of the Terwilliger Center is to make housing markets work more inclusive for people in need of decent shelter, thereby improving the quality of life for low-income households. Since 2017, the Terwilliger Center has helped over 27.8 million people access improved housing through market systems approaches.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead TCIS to even greater impact in the future. The Vice President (VP) role requires leadership over several areas of practice, and the high caliber staff of TCIS. Credibility and reputation in the space of impact investments, financial inclusion, market systems, innovative approaches and international development is required to continue to drive HFHI’s leadership in this space. The next VP of TCIS will have operational management experience and financial acumen. The role will oversee a budget of US$10-US$15M with a goal of growing that funding significantly in the next four years. Bringing to bear an inspirational, collaborative, innovative and facilitative approach, the VP will lead a team of over 70 people, including a leadership team of 10-15 directors and managers of national and global teams working around the world in numerous time zones and on project deliverables that span multiple geographies. An excellent written and oral communicator, team player and strategic thinker, the VP represents TCIS’ interests on HFHI’s Senior Leadership Team and the Operations Leadership Team internally and externally represents TCIS and HFHI in some of the highest level of exposure to donors, policy makers, and sector influence agents.

We are seeking someone with an agile, entrepreneurial and growth mindset. The Vice President of the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter will be an experienced leader with a passion for facilitating efficient and inclusive housing market systems to make affordable housing possible for millions around the world. The VP will develop and lead teams that drive some of Habitat’s most cutting-edge programs that drive systems change for housing markets. The subject matter and technical capacity of stakeholders and donors involved in is complex and requires an understanding of private sector markets, corporate multi-nationals, local policy constraints and opportunities, and the international development sector and donors.
