The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and around the world to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. When the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.

This is an exciting and challenging time for the British Red Cross as we build on our 150-year history, begin to live our Strategy 2030, rise to the challenges of the coronavirus crisis and build to the future where we can make an even bigger difference for people in crisis.

The role

As a Trustee, you will help us make a real difference. You will play an essential role in applying your skills and knowledge to ensure that we have robust governance and a secure future. You will contribute to determining the overall strategic direction and development as well as effective and efficient administration and stewardship of the British Red Cross to help us achieve the goals of our ambitious new Strategy 2030. You will work closely with other members of the Board, the Chair, Chief Executive, the Executive Leadership Team and British Red Cross volunteers and staff to achieve our goals and ensure effective working relationships across a wide group of stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

You will bring passion, energy, commitment and vision to help reach out and make an impact on the lives of people vulnerable to crisis. You will be able to demonstrate senior leadership experience, and contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation. You will have experience of operating within a Board or committee structure in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation. You need to be able to share your passion and commitment and be an internal and external ambassador for the organisation. We are particularly looking for candidates who bring commercial acumen or strategic finance at scale, a demonstrable commitment to inclusive practice and championing diversity, and ideally some understanding of and exposure to fundraising.

This position is non-remunerated (although we do repay reasonable expenses) and the initial term is four years. This can be extended for a further four years.
