The race is on to limit global warming to 1.5°C and prevent the worst effects of climate change. Can you help us step up the pace?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling the world’s biggest and most impactful companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets. As a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments, the SBTi is one of the world’s most respected climate initiatives.

To ensure we retain this position, we’re strengthening our governance and standard setting protocols, including through the creation of a new Technical Council. The SBTi Technical Council (TC) will be an independent deliberation body with the mandate of reviewing and approving, or providing recommendation of approval, of SBTi standards and other normative documentation, according to the SBTi Rules of Procedure, and exclusively in the public interest.

We are seeking Technical Council members with outstanding academic and professional qualifications, unquestionable integrity, and a commitment to act exclusively in the public interest, free of any conflict of interest and guided by our mission. We expect that TC members will be passionate about meaningful and transformational climate action, obsessed about rigor and integrity, and committed to the success of the SBTi and to our mission. We will stive to assemble a diverse group with different and complementary skills and areas of expertise and with a balance across gender and geography.

If you bring the right skills and experience for our Technical Council or know someone who can, please read more by downloading the appointment details below. The deadline for applications is Friday, October 7, 2022.

Overall, Technical Council members may expect to commit 10-12 days per year to SBTi Technical Council activities. Members of the Technical Council are appointed by the SBTi Executive Board for a term of two years, subject to renewal, with a two-term limit for any member.

The terms of reference for the SBTi Technical Council can be found on this link.
