Together for a better built environment

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is the leading not-for-profit industry network with a mission to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment. Since our founding in 2007, our membership has grown to over 700 organisations, with members spanning the entire value chain, from investors and property companies to lenders, lawyers, designers, contractors and product manufacturers. We play a vital role in setting the targets and identifying the pathways required to propel the industry forwards, and in convening private and public sector stakeholders to deliver on these.

We are now seeking a visionary, proven leader to serve as our next Chief Executive Officer; one with a deep commitment to sustainability and a strong belief in the built environment’s crucial role in enabling people and planet to thrive. The successful candidate will be excited about the opportunity to capitalise on the momentum that has built up around the climate and ecological emergency, as well as the challenge of driving impactful change at speed and scale. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will lead UKGBC with vision, integrity and direction. You will be responsible for delivering our future strategy, representing UKGBC externally, increasing partnerships and ensuring our offer to members remains the best possible.

We are seeking candidates from a broad range of sectors and backgrounds. You will be an authentic, principled leader who can support the industry on the path to a regenerative economy, acting as a trusted advisor to leaders across sectors.  Together with demonstrable experience and understanding of working in a commercial context, you will be a collaborative, empathic leader who will sustain the sense of urgency in pursuit of our mission. You will have a track record of strategic and operational leadership as well as managing a high performing team. You will bring credibility based on experience and an ability to influence and inspire, as well as to engage change agents across central and local Government, private and public sector members, commercial partners, funders and donors.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification quoting reference 6090. The deadline for applications is Monday 31st October 2022.

The role is based in London, UK and the salary will be competitive and commensurate with the seniority of the role.

Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in mid-late November and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post in mid-December, following which, interviews with UKGBC will take place in mid-January (likely w/c 9th January 2023).

UKGBC is committed to providing equality opportunities to all existing and prospective colleagues. We aim to be inclusive to everyone regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation or political beliefs.
