We are seeking an outstanding leader to become the first Chief Finance Officer at Sport England. This new role will play a key part in driving forward an organisation determined to tackle inequalities and unlock the advantages of sport and physical activity for everyone.

The Winner of Sports Organisation of the Year at the 2021 Sport Industry Awards, Sport England is an arm’s length body of government established by Royal Charter in 1996. We support our expertise, insight and campaigns with the targeted investment of funding from both the government and the National Lottery to grow and develop grassroots sport and help more people across England get active.

We strive to build the foundations of a world-class community sport system by working with a wide range of sporting and other organisations, to grow the number of people playing sport and being active, sustain participation levels and help more talented people from more diverse backgrounds excel.

We believe that by removing existing barriers to sport and activity, we can have impact that extends well beyond our sector and helps to address many of society’s biggest challenges. Uniting the Movement is our 10-year strategy for 2021-31 aiming to do just that.

The successful candidate will need to be a strategic, inclusive, and highly collaborative leader with an ability to build strong relationships with key internal and external partners.

They will be expected to provide trusted, strategic financial advice to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board, to ensure appropriate standards of governance and assurance permeate through all parts of the organisation, and that all colleagues are expertly supported by world class corporate services.

About the role

The Chief Finance Officer will lead a large multi-disciplinary team and will be responsible for the delivery of all organisational financial responsibilities and reporting, and for the delivery and execution of key corporate services including investment management, internal governance, audit and risk management, legal services and procurement, IT, and property management.

About you

You will be committed to a values-driven culture and way of working, with a willingness to learn, a collegiate approach and the capability to help make Sport England a world-class body through your engagement in and contribution to the leadership team. You will share our passion to champion the life-changing impact of being active, and commitment to removing barriers to access, in order to ensure everyone across the nation can benefit.

With experience of senior leadership in a complex environment, you will have a well-defined approach to finance and corporate services delivery with proven experience of working and advising at a senior level, potentially but not necessarily within central or local Government or similar organisations. We are looking for an ambitious and innovative individual who is highly skilled in creating positive links and convening disparate groups around a common purpose or issue.

Sport England has offices in London (Canary Wharf), Loughborough and Bisham Abbey (Marlow, Buckinghamshire). This position can be based at either our Loughborough or Bisham Abbey offices on a full-time or hybrid basis, or be home-based; however, we do anticipate regular travel to London and our other Sport England offices. As part of the recruitment process we are committed to discussing with candidates who reach the interview stage the most suitable working arrangements for both the individual and Sport England.

The salary is up to £130,000 with generous benefits.
