Protecting the public, inspiring confidence

Nursing and Midwifery Council Members

(for further details, please see the microsite).

We are seeking three new non-Executive members to join our Council in May 2023. Two roles are for lay non-Executives and one is open to a professional currently on our register.

We want to see safe, effective, and kind nursing and midwifery that improves everyone’s health and wellbeing. As the regulator of more than 771,000 nursing and midwifery professionals we have an important role to play in making this vision a reality.

Over the next three years, government reforms will transform how we work, giving us greater autonomy and flexibility to deliver more effectively for the public and professionals. The Council will also change, becoming more accountable to the people we serve.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion is central to all we do. We strongly encourage applicants from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities or with other diverse backgrounds as we want our Council to reflect the professions we regulate, and the people they care for.

As our work covers all of the UK, we welcome applicants from all four nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

We are looking for three high calibre, talented people who can add value and bring new perspectives as we enter this exciting new phase. We are keen to hear from those who can bring significant skills in areas such as public accountability, public affairs, advocating for the public or for people who use services, senior leadership in higher education, commercial expertise or leadership or oversight of major technology/digital or cultural transformation.

You will be joining a highly motivated, forward-thinking Council, united in our ambition to do our best for the public we serve and the professionals we regulate, working with our Executive team. Our values - to be fair, kind, collaborative, and ambitious - underpin everything we do.

You will need to be able to devote at least 3 days a month to the Council; in return you will receive an annual allowance (currently £15,166 a year) and reasonable expenses.

How to apply

We will need:

  • A statement on why you are suitable for the role (no more than two pages). Please make sure you say how you meet the competencies set out in the candidate briefing pack.
  • Your CV (no more than three pages)
  • The information form filled in and signed by you (the form is available for download from the microsite or by selecting "Download Further Details" at the bottom of the page). When you select, “Apply Now”, you can upload your completed form under the “Upload Additional Documentation” section. We strongly encourage you to complete the equality and diversity section of the form please.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon (GMT) on Wednesday 18 January 2023.
