The horseracing industry is now at an exciting stage of its development with regards to our workforce and we are looking for a Programme Director People to join the newly established Industry People Board (IPB). This is a unique opportunity to set and drive the strategic direction for the entire people agenda across British horseracing.  At the core of the IPG sits the Industry People Board, whose key outcomes revolve around improving the sustainability of the workforce to support the improvement of British racing, establishing and meeting future needs, and driving improved skills, engagement, and wellbeing.

The Programme Director People will work closely with the Chair of the Industry People Board, as well as key stakeholders across the breadth of British horseracing. They will manage a programme focused on all aspects of HR as well as Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) and Skills Education & Employment. Their job is to establish a workforce strategy for racing that will enable the industry to attract and retain the talent it will need for the future. The role has responsibility for the definition, planning, delivery, coordination, and evaluation of this strategy, as well as reporting on it and managing its funding. As such it offers great opportunity for innovation, creativity, and influence, as well as tangible and measurable impact.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • a demonstrable track record of strong, effective strategic leadership in a similarly complex landscape, and the resilience and determination to advocate for change.
  • you should have a dynamic management style and be able to Influence as well as act as an ambassador for the IPG.
  • you will have excellent organisation skills with strong written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to listen, articulate and present cases and ideas/solutions successfully at all levels to a variety of audiences.

To effectively define and deliver the relevant strategy, you will also have the requisite understanding and experience of HR, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and/or Skills Education & Employment, as well as of programme and project management principles and practice. Candidates will have substantial interest in people and workforce welfare, and the ability to act as a champion and ambassador to communicate British Horseracing as a great industry to work and develop in.

Salary: Competitive £105 - £130k.
