Role

BUas is seeking to attract a new Director to lead and continue to shape AGM. The new director facilitates a stimulating environment for students and staff dedicated to excellence in research and teaching. Aligned with the principles of BUas, the Director will be an inspirational and seasoned leader able to further develop the Academy’s professional culture.

The Director will be a member of the AGM’s management team. The Director is responsible for the Academy’s management and facilitating professionals in reaching high-quality levels in education and research. Together with the MT, the Director will guide faculty and staff to further develop and implement the Academy’s vision and strategy. Management is taken up together with the management team and in consultation with the Executive Board of BUas.

The Director of AGM contributes to the strategic vision and direction of BUas and will serve as a sparring partner to the Executive Board together with the directors of the other four academies. Moreover, the Director will play a crucial role in stimulating collaboration and exchange across academies, the AGM and BUas participation councils. This is particularly important for the new Artificial Intelligence and Data Management bachelor programme.

The successful candidate will combine as many of the following criteria as possible:

• Experience with applied research, knowledge development and innovation, within a complex international and culturally diverse environment.
• Robust understanding of educational processes and curriculum development in collaboration with the Board of Examiners, Programme committees and participation councils.
• Safeguarding and innovating the quality of education within all disciplines of the Academy.
• Able to keep a balanced contribution to all disciplines within the Academy.
• Robust understanding of educational and research processes in games, media, and artificial intelligence and data management.
• Can draw and build on a wide international network in one or more of the disciplines relevant to AGM.
• Negotiates and translates BUas strategy into Academy objectives. Shapes and implements objectives in strong and constructive collaboration with all relevant stakeholders within and outside the academy and the institute, such as the management team, fellow academy directors, services, employee participation and external organisations.
• Delivers measurable and concrete results of Academy objectives in a transparent fashion.
• Substantial understanding of the Creative Industries and ability to strategically position the Academy within and outside BUas and internationally.
• Actively seeks opportunities for joint impact-driven initiatives with other academies and organisations in the private and public sectors drawing from regional, national and international networks.
• Foster a development-oriented mindset within the Academy and strengthen a healthy and inclusive working environment to support and stimulate strong BUas cooperation.

Profile

The new Director:

• is a visible and recognised leader evidenced by a proven track record in several roles within a complex organisation;
• has significant experience in strategic, operational and financial management and in change management;
• has the ability to see the “bigger picture” and plan for the future, while dealing with the detailed, complex challenges and decisions that arise day-to-day;
• combines relevant business acumen, skills and competencies with a good understanding of the higher education landscape and the dynamics that drive the success of top-tier specialised education institutes;
• is an avid advocate of community building, concerning academic staff, support staff, students and external stakeholders;
• encourages talent development within the academy and has a facilitating, coaching style of leadership;
• has expertise and experience with managing talented and autonomous professionals. The new Director is capable of delegating with trust and understands how to best use the talents and skills of the employees;
• is equipped with cultural sensitivity and can work within an international context;
• has a proven ability to act as an external ambassador and develop, manage and sustain relationships with key external strategic partners, including industry, government, and other organisations;
• holds a master’s degree; a PhD in a relevant discipline is welcome;
• has an excellent command of spoken and written English.
