The Martingale Foundation has been created because we believe that family income should not be a barrier to the pursuit of academic excellence. Our mission is to find, fund and support a new generation of STEM postgraduates.

We recruit students that have the potential to excel at PhD level. We offer them scholarships that include full funding for a master’s and a PhD at one of our five partner universities: Cambridge, Imperial, King’s, Oxford and UCL. We then support them through an on-going development programme, including access to research and industry internships.

Having launched in September 2022, we have now made offers to 25 Martingale scholars in mathematics, who will commence their studies in September 2023. Over the next 10 years, we plan to expand to a wider network of universities and other STEM subjects. We are now recruiting our first Chief Executive to develop and scale the organisation in the years ahead.

Building on the excellent foundations already in place, the Chief Executive will have four main priorities: (i) Build an outstanding team; (ii) Refine the scholarship programme, (iii) Create a strategy for growth, and (iv) Develop new partnerships with funders and universities.

Are you a driven leader with the vision and capabilities to take a start-up to scale?

Are you motivated by the prospect of leading a mission-focused non-profit?

Do you thrive when building new partnerships to deliver ambitious growth?

The Chief Executive will need to bring the drive to motivate and lead our team, our partners and our future funders. They will have a track record as a senior leader, with outstanding influencing and relationship building skills. They will be an energetic and passionate leader, who will resonate strongly with the ethos and mission of the Martingale Foundation.

This is a career-defining opportunity with huge potential for impact. If this inspires you, please get in touch.

The Martingale Foundation is being incubated by Ark Ventures, one of the UK’s leading non-profit venture builders. Ark Ventures has a track record of launching, developing and growing charities that address some of the most intractable challenges in education. The foundation is supported with multi-year funding and support from XTX Markets.

Martingale Foundation is committed to creating a diverse environment and ensuring that all qualified applicants receive equal consideration for employment. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates from all backgrounds with the qualifications and experience to undertake this role.

Applications should consist of a covering letter, full CV detailing academic and professional qualifications, employment history, latest remuneration and relevant achievements.

Salary: c.£100k

Location: Hybrid – London Office

The closing date for applications is 12:00 GMT on Sunday 29th January 2023.
