As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.

The School of Informatics at The University of Edinburgh is a world-class centre for computer science and informatics research and education and is the leading institution in its field in the United Kingdom.  We are one of Europe’s largest Informatics groupings, with national and international leadership in fields such as robotics, machine learning, natural language processing, systems and architecture, quantum computing, and theoretical computer science.

The School is a community of around 500 academic, postdoctoral researchers and professional services staff, around 500 research students and a taught student cohort of around 1,600.   It is based in the modern, purpose-built, Informatics Forum on The University of Edinburgh’s city centre campus. Dedicated teaching space is provided in the adjacent Appleton Tower. We have a diverse and international community – our students and staff come from over 100 countries.

We have experienced a period of significant growth in both staff and students in recent years, and require a strong leader as Head of School with a strategic vision and leadership skills to ensure that the School continues to build on its existing success and to steer a course through the many opportunities available.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.

The University of Edinburgh is willing to consider flexible working or job share arrangements for this appointment.

The closing date is Tuesday 31st January 2023.
