The Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University has started the search for an Associate Professor or Professor of Information Systems. The Faculty of Information Technology is the only faculty within Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight universities dedicated to information technology and is one of the largest faculties of its kind anywhere in the world, boasting around 3,500 students. Because of its disciplinary focus and the areas in which its works the Faculty is by nature deeply collaborative, facilitating interdisciplinary ties that span the broader research community both within Monash and outside it. The Opportunity
The Professor/Associate Professor in Machine Learning is expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing leadership and in fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the academic discipline within the department or other comparable organisational units.
The Professor/Associate Professor will lead the Machine Learning (ML) discipline group or the department on various education, research and staff matters as well as the development and implementation of high-quality research in machine learning that will lead to publications in top refereed journals and conferences and attract competitive external and government funding. The Professor/Associate Professor in Machine Learning will also play a significant role in research projects including, where appropriate, the leadership of a research team.
The successful applicant must have a doctoral qualification and recognised significant experience and leadership in the relevant discipline area. With highly developed skills in leadership in research, education and/or service in the machine learning area, the successful applicant must also have a strong visibility and recognition in top machine learning venues such as serving as area chair or keynote talks in NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, and SigKDD or editor in top ML journals.
