Chief Development Officer - The Ocean Cleanup

The largest cleanup in history

The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organisation founded in 2013 to develop and scale technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. To achieve this, The Ocean Cleanup works on both closing the sources of plastic pollution and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean. Once this has been completed, The Ocean Cleanup’s work will be done. Their ambitious yet simple aim to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic requires global initiative. With the help and support of individuals, corporations and governments all over the world, The Ocean Cleanup can realise their mission and work towards a future where plastic no longer pollutes our oceans.

The Ocean Cleanup is now seeking a Chief Development Officer who will play a crucial role in the success of the organisation, to help drive forward their continued growth, their ambitious goals and further diversify their funding streams. Working closely with, and reporting directly to CEO Boyan Slat, you will be responsible for co-creating, communicating and delivering a compelling vision and strategy for fundraising and scaling revenue streams. You will lead the development team, build and maintain strong relationships with philanthropists, international governments and multilateral institutions, corporates, and other relevant funding partners.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding, dynamic and ambitious individual, who brings significant development and partnership experience, securing multi-year funding, and an impressive track record of co-creating opportunities with philanthropy, corporates and governments. You will be an outstanding communicator at ease in an external facing role, able to effectively articulate and amplify The Ocean Cleanup’s mission and goals, alongside the CEO and team. Most importantly, you will be enthusiastic, motivated, and deeply invested in The Ocean Cleanup’s mission, and values. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly scaling organisation and have a transformative impact in tackling plastic pollution in rivers and oceans.
