ISTA is a young and international institute dedicated to cutting-edge research and graduate education in the physical, mathematical, computer, and life sciences, chemistry and, most recently, in astrophysics. The institute fosters interdisciplinary interaction between scientists from all countries and is committed to the highest international academic standards, integrity, equality, and diversity on campus, as well as respect and recognition for all. The institute is funded by public and private grants. ISTA has grown in scientific, academic staff and infrastructure with secured funds, and currently has 75 research groups with the aim to host up to 150 world-class research groups by 2036.
ISTA seeks to appoint a leader who is passionate about communicating the fascinating world of science to all stakeholders. The successful individual has a track record of engaging and connecting its internal community of more than 1000 employees as well as external audiences while ensuring consistent brand messaging as key missions of the institute´s communications department. ISTA is thus looking for an innovative communications professional, strategic thinker, and strong leader with a passion for research to align, strengthen, and further develop all internal and external communication activities. Such effective and innovative multi-channel communication will enhance the institute's profile and public perception. In this critical role, the individual chosen will offer strategic advice and work on communications at the executive level and, therefore, report directly to both the President and the Managing Director while being supported by a motivated communications, events, and science education team.
The role requires strategic thinking, agility, and the ability to proactively develop and implement communications and event strategies a well as harnessing and reacting to news and research agendas.
Candidates will be strongly motivated by ISTA´s mission and vision and will bring a successful track record of leading strategic development, implementation, and management of internal and external communications in a comparably complex context. A passion for science is essential as are creativity, innovation, and the ability to welcome and embrace diversity in branding a shared vision. Proven leadership experience in a senior, strategic communications role, preferably within a research environment is a given, as are excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and German, in addition to high levels of political and cultural awareness and diplomacy.
