Since our founding in 1854, University College Dublin has played a pivotal role in the development of Ireland by demonstrating leadership in each of our values: fostering excellence and creativity, championing integrity and diversity, and encouraging collegiality and engagement. We are Ireland’s global university, and through our outstanding university community, our wide range of disciplines and our open and ambitious attitude we make a real difference to the world.
The School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering has a long and distinguished international track record of achievement across major fields of research. Bio/Pharmaceutical Engineering research has been a strength of the school for over 40 years and staff have published extensively in the leading journals in the field, participated in international networks and industry collaborations, and have formed spin-out companies such as APC and BioSimulytics.
Following recent sustained growth in the School’s taught programmes, the growth of internationally important research opportunities, and the Senior Academic Leadership Initiative (SALI) sponsored by the Higher Education Authority, the School invites applications for a permanent position of Full Professor in Pharmaceutical Engineering. Ireland is one of the top exporters of Pharma/Biopharma products in the world and has a thriving manufacturing sector. There are 23 manufacturing facilities operated by the top Pharma/Biotech companies in the world making Biologics, and numerous others involved in traditional small molecule production. The increasing importance of the newer cell and gene therapy and novel vaccine formats represents further opportunity for Ireland to continue to be a leader in this space. Candidates with expertise in the scientific disciplines underpinning the discovery, manufacture, or delivery of any of these modalities are particularly welcome to apply. This role presents a great opportunity for an outstanding and visionary academic leader to advance teaching, research and innovation in the field of Biopharmaceutical Engineering in the SCBE and to influence the trajectory of the School into the future.
