Thank you for your interest in joining the University of Bradford as Chair of Council.

Founded in 1966, the University of Bradford focuses on creating the conditions for social, cultural, and economic impact. Today the University has a student population of circa 13,000, bringing together people from 150 nations in one place of learning excellence.

We are committed to social inclusion and our work to expand opportunity and enable students to reach their potential has led to us being first in the Social Mobility Index of English universities for the last two years. The University of Bradford also undertakes world-leading applied research, with 77% of our research impact rated as internationally excellent, or world leading in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF). We hold the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for our pioneering work enabling people to live well with dementia and for our world-leading work in developing archaeological technology and techniques. We are also in the top 200 most international universities in the world (Times Higher Education).

Our strategy places people at the heart of the University and we are committed to delivering a high-quality staff, and student, experience that underpins our strategic ambitions, driven by our values of inclusion, trust, innovation and excellence. Our vision is a world of inclusion and equality of opportunity, where people want to, and can, make a difference. We hold seven Athena Swan awards and remain steadfast in our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are a values-led organisation that is inclusive and effective in enriching lives and benefitting society.

We are also firmly anchored in the city of Bradford, and this has never been more important as we plan with our partners to celebrate and capitalise upon Bradford’s status as City of Culture 2025.

This is an exciting time to consider joining us. We are seeking to appoint a Chair of Council who embodies our values and passion for the University of Bradford, who can guide us in this next stage on our journey. The Chair of Council plays a vital role in assisting the University to leverage our profile, to get the best out of our Council Members, and to be a source of guidance and support for our Vice-Chancellor.

The individual will be an experienced executive and non-executive leader and will bring their professional skills and expertise to bear alongside extensive personal networks that they are keen and able to leverage for the University.

The University is strongly committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity and particularly welcomes applications from under-represented groups.
