The Two Bridges School (Pupil Referral Unit)

Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Salary: L27-L32

To Start September 2024

The Two Bridges School is the behaviour support provision for the West Kent Area, where a culture of safeguarding weaves through all that we do. We have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. The school offers support through the WKLF referral forum to all 16 Secondary Schools in West Kent as well as 75 Primary Schools across the Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and South Sevenoaks area through our primary interventions. After leading our school successfully for the last nine years, our current Head Teacher has decided to take retirement, and we are seeking an exceptional candidate to succeed her.

The Role

As the senior leader, responsible for the education and welfare of our 40 or so pupils, you will play a key role in helping pupils to re-engage with education and to achieve positive outcomes for their future.

  • Lead the education and welfare of 40+ pupils who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools.
  • Manage a team of 30+ staff, including teachers, teaching assistants, mentors, counsellors and support workers.
  • Provide personalised learning and support for pupils with serious social, emotional and behavioural difficulties through the development of bespoke programmes for each individual.
  • Deliver outreach work to primary and secondary schools across the region.
  • Liaise with families and other agencies, such as the local authority, social services, health services and the police.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils' progress, attainment, attendance, behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations, such as health and safety, safeguarding, curriculum and assessment.

The Person

To succeed in this role you will:

  • Have leadership experience in education and safeguarding for vulnerable children.
  • Be resilient and passionate about creating opportunities for children with social, economic and behavioural challenges.
  • Have emotional intelligence and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and champion the school, its pupils, staff and mission.
  • Have strong influencing skills and sense of purpose, and enjoy working in a reactive environment.
  • Have the ability to anticipate and mitigate medium-term outcomes, and plan strategically for the future.
  • Have values that align with the individual needs of each child and their tailored programme.
  • Have the skills and ability to inspire, support and motivate your team and show genuine belief in the potential of the pupils in your care.
