Working towards a just and sustainable future where human dignity can flourish

Porticus is a philanthropic organisation that aims to create a just and sustainable future where human dignity flourishes. Our work aims to strengthen the resilience of communities so that all people have ownership over their future, and natural resources are used in a sustainable way. We realize our objectives through strong networks of partners including local and global NGOs, communities, people with lived experience, policy makers and co-funders.

The Caring for the Earth Sector comprises of philanthropic programmes across Clean Energy, Living Forests, Regenerative Agriculture, and Purposeful Business. The sector encompasses the work we do through the Good Energies Foundation.

The Investment Committee (IC) is a cornerstone of our governance, co-creating sector strategies and providing oversight of investments.

Porticus is now seeking an outstanding External Investment Committee (IC) Member who will play a pivotal role in bringing external perspectives and expertise to the Investment Committee. Your insights will strengthen connections to the broader field and ground the IC in diverse geographic experiences. You will contribute to learning from philanthropic best practices and help shape strategies aimed at a just and sustainable future.

The ideal candidate for the role of External Caring for the Earth IC Member will bring invaluable lived experience in the thematic areas, effectively representing the expansive scope of Porticus and our partners' work. The IC Member will bring a profound understanding of the pressing challenges posed by the current climate and nature crises, ideally cultivated through lived experiences and a diverse career that spans government, private sector, civil society, and/or academia. Moreover, the candidate should ideally possess knowledge or familiarity with system transitions, particularly within the land-use sector, and a keen understanding of the pivotal role philanthropy plays in catalysing transformative change.

In this role, you will actively engage in four Investment Committee (IC) meetings annually, aiming for one yearly in-person attendance. Your responsibilities will extend to participating in learning calls, occasional field trips and, where appropriate, serving as a representative for Porticus at events pertinent to the sector's work. Most importantly, the individual will demonstrate a deep passion for human dignity and social justice, and genuine alignment with the values of Porticus.

The IC member terms are for three years (with up to two additional years’ renewal). This role will be serving on a voluntary, part-time basis estimating participation to approximately 10 days/year.

To apply, applications should consist of a covering letter explaining the motivation and qualifications for the position and a full curriculum vitae.  Applications can be uploaded at https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/, quoting reference 7133.

The closing date for applications for role is on Monday 11th March at 09:00 CET.

Informal enquiries and questions can be directed to Erik Hafner on +31 (0) 0202 404 379 or by emailing erik.hafner@perrettlaver.com.

Applications will be considered by the appointment advisory committee in mid-March to decide on a shortlist of candidates. These individuals will subsequently be invited for formal interviews in early April. Selection of the preferred candidate will take place thereafter.
