NURTURE POTENTIAL AND IMPROVE PEOPLE’S LIVES - BECOME A TRUSTEE AT THE HARPUR TRUST.
The Harpur Trust has been a major contributor to Bedford life for more than 450 years. Our ambitious new strategy, Together for Bedford, sees us build on our rich heritage in education and grant giving by working together to transform young lives, right across our community. We aim to continue to offer high quality, distinctive education alongside a generous bursary programme in our independent schools, to work for a generation to help tackle the cyclical relationship between disadvantage, lack of opportunities, poor educational outcomes and future poverty, and to maximise our impact on community needs through effective grant-making.
Following a governance review, we are now looking for four to five people to join us as Trustees. These volunteers play a vital role in making sure that the charity achieves its core purpose by overseeing the overall management and administration of the charity. Trustees help us to achieve our mission of nurturing potential and improving people’s lives by ensuring that the Trust has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
Candidates will have a range of skills and we would particularly welcome applications from individuals with strategic experience in education, particularly independent education governance or leadership. We are committed to being representative of the communities that we serve and would therefore particularly welcome interest from those who would increase the diversity of our Board and who have an interest in the progression of education and the lives of young people in Bedford.
Being a Trustee will give you the ability to influence and shape innovative projects and the opportunity to make a lasting impact. There are huge benefits and rewards in being a trustee and we want the experience to be valuable for you. In return for your time and commitment, The Trust will ensure that you have opportunities to learn and develop from the moment you join us, including tailored induction and on-going training programmes, plus opportunities to develop networks. A number of meetings take place remotely or hybrid, although the majority are in person in Bedford.
