Tung Wah College (TWC)

Established by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (“TWGHs”) in 2010, Tung Wah College (TWC) is a self-financing degree-granting institution registered under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance (Cap.320).  Following the educational ideals of TWGHs and leveraging on its renowned strengths and expertise, TWC aims to provide high quality tertiary education to nurture competent, socially responsible and caring professionals for the benefits of society.

With the staunch support of TWGHs, TWC has been developing rapidly and built up a niche in healthcare education.  It is the first self-financing tertiary institution offering professionally accredited degrees to train allied health professionals such as medical laboratory technologists, occupational therapists and radiation therapists. Besides, the College is also the first institution registered under Cap. 320 offering early childhood education degree and higher diploma programmes to train qualified kindergarten teachers and child care professionals.

Currently, TWC has 4 schools (namely School of Arts and Humanities, School of Management, School of Medical and Health Sciences, and School of Nursing) running a total of 22 degree, sub-degree, diploma, certificate and advanced certificate programmes in several disciplines. It has a student population of over 3,900 in 2023/2024.  Since establishment, TWC has nurtured over 5,200 graduates.

 

Job Objectives:

The Registry provides a broad range of student and academic services, and is responsible for maintaining academic records for all students who have ever attended Tung Wah College. The Registry is responsible for overseeing the implementation of academic policies and handles various tasks such as student admissions, registration, time-tabling, examination, scholarships, student grants/loans, issuance of transcripts/testimonials, coordination of ceremonial functions and secretarial support to the Academic Board and its standing committees. Some academic quality assurance procedures such as the administration of Teaching Evaluation and course review by External Examiners are also housed within the Registry.

As the Registrar, he/she will play a crucial role in providing professional academic services to our current students, graduates, staff, and the public on academic issues.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Vice President (Academic), the Registrar will be responsible for

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead a team of professionals to provide strategic and academic support to current students, graduates, and academic departments.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the College's academic policies and regulations.

​2. ​Operational Excellence:

  • Develop and maintain operational procedures and systems, including PowerCAMPUS, to streamline student enrollment and administration.
  • Coordinate student participation in external examinations, if applicable.
  • Oversee functions of the Registry, such as student information systems, student recruitment and admission, student support services, academic regulations, student admission, report preparation, and compliance with statutory requirements.

3. Resource Management:

  • Supervise the efficient use of financial, human, and physical resources within the Registry.

4. Student Records and Documentation:

  • Maintain the safe custody of official student records.
  • Supervise the issuance of reports, transcripts, certificates, and diplomas.

5. Committee Participation:

  • Serve as a member and/or secretary of various committees, such as the Academic Board, and Examination Board.

6. Collaboration and Partnership:

  • Work collaboratively with all Schools, the Communications and Public Relations Office, and other units to achieve targeted student intake and ensure smooth operations of the College.

7. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform any other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the College.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required for Appointment:

The appointee should:

  1. a master’s degree in higher education administration, educational leadership, or a related field is typically required;
  2. at least 15 substantial years of experience in higher education administration and student admission and committee servicing;
  3. strong knowledge of education policies, academic policies, regulations, and compliance requirements in the Hong Kong higher education context;
  4. familiarity with student information systems and other relevant technology platforms commonly used in Hong Kong education institutions;
  5. excellent written and spoken English and Chinese including Putonghua; and
  6. excellent analytical, interpersonal, managerial, organizational and problem solving skills.
