Enabling sustainable and more equitable lives for all

SNV is a mission-driven global development partner driven by the vision of a better world: one where across every society, people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to sustainably thrive. Rooted in the contexts and societies we work in and inspired by the transformational principles and objectives set out by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are committed to building resilient agri-food systems that deliver food security and adequate nutrition; increasing the reliability and availability of water and sanitation at an acceptable quantity and quality; and improving access to affordable and sustainable energy for all.

We work to strengthen institutions and effective governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises. We recognise that today’s problems are not just technical puzzles, they represent complex systemic challenges. This requires that we strive for systems transformation that goes beyond surface solutions and fighting symptoms, and that we look beyond project boundaries.

SNV is seeking an inspirational and strategic leader with strong management skills to join us as our Director Technical Expertise. As part of the Executive Team, you will lead the Technical Expertise Team consisting of our core expertise teams across Agri-food, Energy, and Water, our transversal themes on climate adaptation, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) and governance, as well as the global team responsible for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.  As guardian of our technical expertise, you will lead our global team to serve as an expertise centre and partner to country teams , enabling and furthering a robustness of methodologies and approaches across our portfolio of  programmes. As Director Technical Expertise, you will play a crucial part in shaping strategy towards the realisation of our 2030 strategic framework. In this highly visible role, you will play a pivotal part in our organisation’s mission to enable sustainable and more equitable lives for all.

The ideal candidate for this exciting position will bring a proven track record of in-depth technical expertise and knowledge across several of SNV’s sectors of focus and core themes, and a deep understanding of matrixed organisational working. Your background will entail 15+ years of working in development cooperation in Africa and/or Asia, bringing an extensive network of actors involved in implementing development approaches and projects in low and middle-income countries. You are experienced in cooperating with governments and the private sector as well as donor relations. As a strategic-thinking, impact driven individual with solid influencing skills, you are comfortable in handling complex issues and leading teams in organic change with an adaptive leadership style, navigating team development amidst complexity. You have in-depth understanding of leading and inspiring inclusive organizational design processes, building capabilities and learning across countries whilst harnessing key cultural characteristics.  Above all, you align with our vision of a world where across every society, all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to sustainably thrive.

This will be a full-time position (40 hours a week) with expected travel of 30-50%. The position is based in the Hague, the Netherlands, or in a country where SNV has existing presence and registration. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package in a stimulating work environment, considerable flexibility, opportunities to lead and innovate, and a commitment to growing your skills in a fulfilling international working environment.
