The King’s School, Canterbury is one of the oldest and most distinctive schools in the UK. Based in and around the historic city of Canterbury in Kent and a part of the Foundation of the Cathedral, King’s is an integral part of the city’s ancient history and unique culture. Under the ambitious new leadership of Jude Lowson, King’s seeks to build on this impressive heritage and influence and lead great education on the global stage.

King’s is now seeking a candidate of considerable intellect and ambition to shape and develop the academic strategy and further evolve the culture of scholarship in the school. The Deputy Head (Academic) is responsible for the quality of teaching, the recruitment of teaching staff, and the academic progress of students. King’s is a high-performing community and this post requires a colleague with the potential to embrace change, to move at pace and to play a pivotal role in the ongoing strategic development of the school at an exciting time. The role will provide a dynamic environment with ample opportunities for the appointee to develop as a senior leader.

The successful candidate will be an innovative classroom practitioner who displays refined strategic thinking and the communication skills and gravitas required to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, parents and other key stakeholders. They will bring a proven track record of outstanding academic leadership as a senior or experienced middle leader. A genuine commitment to the distinctive ethos and guiding principles of King’s will be essential.
