Interdisciplinary Chair Professor/Professor in Neuroscience


HKBU is recruiting a world-class scholar to push the boundaries of neuroscience research and bridge the discipline with other fields including arts, education, humanities, wellness, social sciences and business. Candidates should possess strong passion and demonstrated research track record as well as international reputation in their field(s) of expertise and scholarship, including, but not limited to:


Neuroscience + Arts and Humanities

  • Neuroaesthetics
  • Neuroscience + Cognition in Arts and Arts Education
  • Neuroscience + Creativity and the Creative Process
  • Neuroscience + Emotions in Content Creation
  • Neuroscience + Perceptual Learning


Neuroscience + Wellness, Social Sciences and Business

  • Neuroscience + Systems Health and Wellness
  • Brain Inspired-AI + Social Cognition
  • Cognitive Neuroscience + Education
  • Neuroeconomics + Behavioral Decision-Making
  • Neuroscience + Emotions in Social Settings


Candidates should demonstrate outstanding research impact and excellence in terms of reach and significance, exceptional standing in their fields, and a sustained record of significant professional achievements.

Colleagues recruited will have access to seed money and appropriate research facilities/support, as well as a generous array of competitive research funding from Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council, the Innovation and Technology Commission, and other external sources. The appointee will be formally affiliated with the Department most relevant to their primary area of scholarly or academic activity.



  • Lead and conduct innovative research projects;
  • Publish research work in top-tier venues appropriate for their outputs;
  • Nurture young talents through undergraduate/postgraduate teaching in their areas of expertise;
  • Supervise individual student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Provide administrative services as required. 



  • Hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Psychology, or a relevant discipline;
  • Have an outstanding academic, strong professional and research track record. Records of high-impact publications, successful grant applications or project funding bids will be considered as an advantage;
  • Demonstrate keen interest and strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaboration with academic staff members from other disciplines.


Terms of Appointment:

Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The University offers a competitive package which include gratuity/retirement benefits, annual leave, medical and dental coverage, monthly cash allowance and relocation allowance, as applicable.  Direct tenure may be offered to exceptionally strong candidates.
