Our vision is a world free from child marriage, where women and girls can achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives.

Child marriage is a global plight that casts its devastating shadows across communities worldwide.  Every year, 12 million girls are forced into marriage before they turn 18, equating to 23 girls every minute or nearly one every three seconds. Founded in 2011 by The Elders, Girls Not Brides has emerged as the only global organisation uniquely focused on creating and sustaining a worldwide movement to end child marriage and ensuring tangible change for the girls at risk or affected by the practice. Since its launch, millions of girls have enjoyed greater freedoms, opportunities, and powers to decide and direct their own lives, as child marriage prevalence has declined 15% and 25 million child marriages have been averted.

At Girls Not Brides, our core mission is creating and sustaining a global movement dedicated solely to eradicating child marriage and ensuring tangible advancements for women and girls. We stand as a network encompassing over 1,400 Civil Society Organisations in more than 100 countries, united in our endeavour to halt child marriage. Our collective strength and unwavering passion lie within these member organisations, diligently striving to secure educational continuity, holistic health, and the fulfilment of dreams for every girl. They operate within diverse sectors, ranging from grassroots initiatives to international organisations, serving as implementers, service providers, researchers, and advocates.

We are seeking a Director of External Engagement to spearhead fundraising, communications, advocacy, and campaigns strategies in support of our mission. Your leadership skills and experience in fundraising, communications, and advocacy will drive our 2022-25 strategic objectives. As part of our globally dispersed team, you will collaborate closely with members, coalitions, and other global stakeholders to ensure that child marriage is reflected in their policies, budgets and programming.  Overall, you will be responsible for driving outreach efforts, enhancing visibility and partnerships globally while representing Girls Not Brides externally.

The ideal candidate should possess advanced proficiency in strategic planning, resource mobilisation, and communications, coupled with a demonstratable track record in delivering impactful advocacy, fundraising, and outreach strategies on global social issues.             Strong written and oral communication skills across diverse cultural contexts, is essential. Above all else, you should demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Girls Not Brides and our vision in relation to addressing child marriage and the empowerment of girls and women.
