POSITION SUMMARY

Charterhouse Asia is embarking on an exciting journey with an ambition to open at least 5 schools in Asia in the next 10 years across 17 markets – China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Bhutan.

To prepare for future expansions in the region, the Managing Director Asia position is created to be a thought-partner to CEO & the Board to drive growth strategy; build future organization structure and teams, ensure execution and financial performance are met.

The Managing Director of Charterhouse Asia is responsible for the full P&L responsibility of the school expansion in Asia Pacific region and the overall management and operations of the schools. With the alignment with the board and chairman, the Managing Director would be the lead person to identify and verify the feasible and potential new locations for new school for Charterhouse in Asia as well as overseeing the development and management of the new schools to ensure the highest standard is met; and the school mission and vision are well represented in the market.

The position is based in Hong Kong.

Direct reports A lean team based in Hong Kong (to be expanded) with both academic and non-academic staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DESIRED OUTCOMES

  • Market expansion to develop new schools in Asia.
  • Develop business development strategy for Asia expansion; build a “future organization structure and operation” to support functions between HQ and schools.
  • Build a strong performing team in Asia with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Provide leadership and foster stronger partnership between HQ and schools; academic and non-academic parties
  • Overall management of the schools
  • Ensure all schools adhere to Charterhouse Asia’s standards, quality, policy and compliance.
  • Financial management – manage ROI and drive cost management
  • Stakeholder management – board, HQ, schools and relevant external parties
  • Project management – future partnership and new business development opportunities

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE


IDEAL EXPERIENCE

  • 20+ years of work experience with reputable organizations; background in education is plus but not a must.
  • Demonstrate a strategic view in building a successful business and has a vision for growth.
  • A financially astute leader who is capable to drive and deliver business results.
  • Proven success in growing or scaling an organization with track record in navigating within a multi-site or multi-market business.
  • Possess experience in “market development” or “business development”
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of Asia, especially China market knowledge; possess a relevant network to accelerate market penetration.
  • A strong people leader who can motivate and energize a diverse team with commercial and non-commercial / academic and non-academic background.
  • Has management gravitas and strong at stakeholder management, including internal and external stakeholders like investors, Board, schools, academic teams, business parties, local government bodies or regulators in Asia.
  • Proficiency in English is must; Chinese speaking is desirable.
