The great economic growth success stories of the 20th and 21st centuries are culturally and geographically diverse, but they were all driven by great leaders. Nowhere is the need for great leadership more urgent than the African continent, and nowhere else can great leadership education at scale be more transformative in driving economic and societal progress. To create the conditions for rapid economic development, Crucible aims to unlock exceptional leadership potential across the continent.

By 2045, Crucible will have established a network of 100 “leadership academies”: secondary schools for Africa’s most gifted students. They will provide outstanding academic and leadership education to around 90,000 of the continent’s most talented teenagers, irrespective of means. These Crucible alumni will be leaders, steeped in public service, ethics and entrepreneurship, creating better lives not just for themselves but also for their communities. They will raise economic, political, social and cultural expectations and outcomes across the continent.

Crucible is seeking its first CEO to establish it as a world-leading philanthropic organisation. With its first school in Lusaka, Zambia, accepting students in January 2025, the CEO will join an organisation of incredible ambition with early proof of concept. Their passion and authenticity will attract the capital and talent to support each school to deliver transformational education. Working with an equally committed and passionate advisory board they will oversee the further development of Crucible schools across the continent and ongoing career support for Crucible alumni.

They will lead and inspire a team capable of overseeing quality outcomes across the group. The CEO will be an exceptional storyteller, able to share Crucible’s ambition and vision effectively and authentically. They will have proven experience in securing significant gifts and building meaningful relationships with donors, able to foster a network of committed supporters of Crucible’s mission at school and group level, including governments and local stakeholders.

They will be passionate about unlocking the leadership talent of Africa to create prosperity for the continent and the world.

The closing date for applications is 9:00am (BST) on Monday 23rd September 2024.
