Appointment of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous)

Monash University is one of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities, consistently ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide.  Globally minded, progressive in culture and enterprising in outlook, we are committed to world-class standards of education and research to benefit communities in Australia and abroad.

Our dedication to delivering academic excellence is matched by our commitment to advancing equity and diversity in education.  Fostering a culture of inclusion, social and cultural awareness, and respect is essential to realising the impact to which Monash aspires.  From its earliest years, the University has worked to advance Indigenous programs, including providing support for Indigenous Australians to study and work at Monash, and has been recognised for its academic contributions in Indigenous history, culture and literature.

An exciting opportunity now exists to further advance the reputation, profile and contribution of Indigenous affairs as the inaugural Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous).  Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) will lead a dedicated portfolio charged with providing visionary and cohesive leadership University-wide to increase Indigenous undergraduate and graduate student numbers, promote recognition of Indigenous culture, and facilitate Indigenous research and teaching across disciplines.  The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous) will bring leadership experience in the development and promotion of Indigenous networks and relationships, and will have credibility within Indigenous communities across Australia.

Applicants will have a strong understanding of the higher education sector and significant career achievements along with a record of scholarship, and demonstrated impact in their profession.  S/he will be an inspiring and experienced leader, with the ability to develop cohesive strategies in complex environments and to function effectively at senior management level.  Applicants will be able to demonstrate experience in engaging and advising on Indigenous matters, and – leveraging excellent communication skills – be a compelling advocate for the University in public debate.
