Moorfields Eye Charity supports the world-leading work of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Moorfields) and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (UCL). Our mission is to improve eye health by funding innovation in research, education and care to benefit Moorfields’ patients. We are the leading charity in the UK dedicated to funding research in eye health. Our funding for research and education means that the benefits of our work extend across the UK and globally.
In addition to our ongoing grants programmes, we are working in partnership with Moorfields and UCL to create a new world class integrated centre for advancing clinical care, teaching and research, known as Oriel. Construction started in summer 2023 and it is expected to open in 2027.
We have an ambitious new business plan to grow the charity’s fundraising so that after the new centre opens, our grant-making grows from our current level of £6m a year to over £10m. In support of our ambitious plans, the charity implemented a new five-year fundraising strategy earlier this year. We are also in the final stages of agreeing a new communications strategy which will be supported by the restructure and growth of our communications team and the expanded remit of the board’s new Fundraising and Communications committee to include responsibility for communications recognising how integral this is to our fundraising, grant making and future success.
At this exciting juncture, we are looking to appoint a new Trustee with senior level leadership experience of fundraising and communication; in this capacity, the successful candidate will also chair the Fundraising and Communications board sub-committee. We are seeking an individual with senior leadership experience in fundraising, ideally within health and/or research, and in fundraising governance; they will offer sound, independent judgement and the strategic experience to enable them to contribute fully as a Trustee, as well as the specialist knowledge to fulfil their role as Chair of the Fundraising and Communications Committee. Above all, they will have a keen interest in, and strong commitment to, the mission, vision, and values of Moorfields Eye Charity.
To apply below, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification quoting reference 7539. The deadline for applications is Friday 18th October at 9:00am.
Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. The Selection Panel will meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post on Tuesday 12th November following which, interviews with MEC will take place on Monday 18th November. If you require any reasonable adjustments to assist you in the selection process, please advise us of these so that we can make appropriate arrangements.
