Defined by the spirit of innovation and enterprise, the University of Hertfordshire has been an innovative, vocation-first educational force for more than 70 years. From our start as a leading educator within Britain’s aeronautical industry to our extensive offering today, we have always specialised in providing the environment and expertise needed to power every kind of potential. For our thriving community of more than 33,000 students from over 140 countries, that means high-quality teaching from experts engaged in groundbreaking research with real-world impact and access to more than 550 career-focused degree options.

We are a university that never stands still. We champion social mobility and the drive to create personal and societal change. We celebrate those who break barriers. We nurture entrepreneurs and develop tomorrow’s leaders, innovators and trailblazers in healthcare, education, business, science, humanities, law, sport, and creative arts.

In this spirit, we have made the bold step of combining two of our Schools – Life and Medical Sciences and Health and Social Work to create the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. This will position the School as the largest entity within the University and the incoming Dean will be responsible for an immensely varied offering with over 500 members of staff and 11,000 students. We are also opening a brand-new Medical School that will open its doors in 2027 and will help meet the regions and wider UK’s, urgent need for more healthcare professionals.

The Dean of the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences will provide inspirational leadership, bringing significant experience of working at a senior level, driving the success and impact of large and complex health-focussed environments by fostering a collaborative and supportive culture to deliver an excellent experience for our staff and students. The successful candidate will define and articulate our offering in this space working with the NHS and connected partners and ensuring it remains well-connected nationally and internationally. The postholder will be committed to furthering the University’s long-held progressive principles, such as widening access and promoting equality of opportunity.

The University of Hertfordshire is committed to advancing equality of opportunity, embracing and celebrating the diversity of our community, and fostering a cohesive and inclusive culture. We believe that the inclusion of different voices and unique perspectives is what makes our community thrive. We are committed to having a positive transformational impact on every member of our university community, and sharing our successes with the wider community. We are a committed equal opportunities employer.
